West & Fondren (88Twenty) Apartments is a four-story, Type V construction built in 2015. It contains 336 units, and it is located on Westheimer Blvd., a thriving area in Uptown Houston. Cladded in mostly masonry, this contemporary project provides richness and street activation to the area. The masonry was carried consistently into the courtyard facades as well, which is not common in this type of product.
West & Fondren is in a “Figure 8” configuration with active (pool) and passive courtyards. A screened, naturally ventilated garage bifurcates the two sides to provide convenient parking to its tenant. A ring access road was provided around the building for ease of loading and fire access, also serves as a buffer to the single-family homes beyond.
